Senior Software Engineer (Backend, Health Records)

Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of backend systems for ingesting and processing health record data from external sources (e.g., EHRs, third-party health platforms)
- Architect and implement robust data pipelines to clean, normalize, and structure health record data for reliable downstream consumption
- Design and maintain secure, scalable APIs and services that expose health record data to internal systems and member-facing features
- Define and enforce access control mechanisms and data governance standards to ensure privacy, security, and compliance with healthcare regulations
- Drive technical decision-making and system architecture to support scalability, reliability, and extensibility of health record systems
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, data science, and engineering teams to unlock new health insights and capabilities
- Mentor other engineers and contribute to raising the technical bar across the team
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems and APIs in production environments
- Experience working with healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR) and integrating with external health data sources
- Strong understanding of data privacy, security, and access control models, particularly for sensitive health data
- Experience designing scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and validation of complex datasets
- Proficiency in backend technologies such as Java (or similar), relational databases (e.g., Postgres), and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS)
- Experience with distributed systems and designing for high availability and reliability
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and influence system architecture
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
